One of my favorite "go to" trailheads has been closed for an overhaul. It's not the end of the world or anything, but the main trailhead of Blue Mountain is closed until about May 15th. They are expanding due to the growing popularity. It will accommodate horse trailers, and the influx of hikers, bikers, and dog-lovers they have seen these last few years.

The Blue Mountain trail system has become more and more appealing to me lately (since Astrid is a more active participant). It is only a 5 minute drive from my house with the girls....instead of going all the way across town to my year-round favorite Missoula running/hiking spot: Mount Sentinel. You can have any kind of hike/run/bike you want up Blue Mountain...exposed, wooded, steep, steady, more flat, solitude, companionship....it's all there.
So, until the Trailhead opens I have another spot I like to park, and actually I kind of missed going there...When Skagit was a pup and LOVED to jump all over everyone....I used this spot since it is a bit less populated than the main trailhead.
The last time we were up there on Tuesday it was SO beautiful with the snow covering all the newest wildflowers....the ground was yellow, pink, and white...with hints of what is to come!!! Arnica leaves and Arrowleaf Balsamroot popping out all over the place!
Here is some
information on the closure if you are interested in knowing more about it.
